What the door is telling you

Match the symptom, then call

Winter

Three things worth knowing before the first cold snap

  • Springs break in the cold

A spring near the end of its cycle life lets go on the first morning in the low teens. If yours came with a house from the 1990s or earlier, expect it.

  • Ice at the seal is the start of most winter calls

A good bottom seal and a door that closes level keep meltwater from freezing the door down. If the door has been freezing to the slab, that is a fix, not a fact of life.

  • Battery backup is the difference in an ice storm

An opener with battery backup lifts the door through an outage. For a garage with no other way in, that matters.

Still not sure what it is? Call and describe the sound.
