Garage door opener installation

Garage door opener installation in Manchester, NH

The old opener is loud, slow, and on its last gear, or there has never been one on this door. We install belt-drive and wall-mount openers with battery backup, hang them right, set the limits, and program every remote, keypad, and car before we pull out of the driveway.

When it is time

Signs the opener is done

  • It is on its second or third gear

Every stripped gear costs a visit. At some point the visits cost more than the opener.

  • No battery backup

An ice storm takes the power and the door stays shut with the car inside. Newer openers lift the door on a battery.

  • No safety reversing or photo eyes

Openers from before the mid-1990s may not have them. With kids and pets in the garage, that is reason enough.

  • The bedroom is over the garage

A chain drive shakes the ceiling. A belt drive or a wall-mount unit does not.

  • The door is new and the opener is not

A new insulated door is heavier than the old one. The old opener was sized for the old door.

What we do

Hung level, set right, programmed before we leave

We mount the opener to solid framing, not drywall, level the rail, and set the travel and force so the door stops where it should and reverses when it should. Photo eyes get mounted low and aligned. The wall button, keypad, remotes, and the buttons in your cars are programmed and tested. The old opener leaves with us.

Before any of that, we check the door. An opener installed on a door with tired springs works itself to death. If the balance is off we will say so and fix it first, with the price confirmed before we start.

Ice storms and outages

Why battery backup matters in New Hampshire

The power goes out here in ice storms and nor'easters, and it goes out for days, not hours. A wall-mount or belt-drive opener with battery backup lifts the door a dozen times or more on the battery, so the car gets out and the door closes behind it. For a detached garage on the West Side with no other way in, that is the difference between getting to work and not.

Wall-mount openers also free the ceiling, which matters in low garages and in the ones with storage overhead.

Questions we get on the phone

Opener installation questions

  • How much does it cost?

It depends on the door and the part. The tech confirms the price in your driveway before any work starts, and you can say no. There is never a service charge for the visit.

  • Belt drive or wall mount?

Belt drive is the quiet, proven choice for most attached garages. Wall mount costs more, frees the ceiling, and is the quietest option for a garage under a bedroom. We carry both and will say which fits the door.

  • Can you install it the same day?

Often. The common units are on the truck. Call in the morning and ask.

  • Will it work with my phone?

Most current openers do. We set up the app before we leave if you want it.

  • Do you take the old opener?

    Yes. It goes with us.
